Communication is the foundation of any successful relationship, and it’s no different when it comes to staying connected with friends in a digital world. To communicate effectively, it’s essential to be present and actively listen to what your friends have to say. Show genuine interest in their lives, ask open-ended questions, and provide thoughtful responses. Avoid distractions and give your full attention during conversations. Additionally, be mindful of your tone and language when communicating digitally, as it can be easily misinterpreted.
If you’re presenting in Google Slides or PowerPoint, you can also take advantage of our Slido AI features and let the AI engine generate quiz questions right from your presentation. These are ideal when you want a fast, low-pressure way to warm people up, encourage participation or simply start on a high note. You should be truthful about the effect of your friend’s words or actions on you, and how you felt about it.
Omegla makes it easy to meet people from different places, learn how others think, and create those “small world” moments that only live chat can deliver. Encourages Multitasking — Unlike video calls, people are more likely to check their phone or get distracted during an audio call. Lack of Nonverbal Cues — Without facial expressions, it’s easier to misinterpret tone or intent.
Conversations had pauses, and no one assumed silence meant distance. There’s a kind of anxiety many people carry today. The daily contact of living nearby usually settles into something less frequent. That’s fine as long as you both still feel you could call the other when something big happens.
However, good relationships—and that includes friendships—are those where you want to spend time together. You want to chat, to catch up, and to know what each other is doing. If you don’t have this wish, then it is possible that your friendship isn’t quite as strong as you thought.

The relationship between social media use, technology for social connection, and friendship closeness was investigated using a structural path model with gender and age as a covariate (see Figure 2). Direct and indirect effects were estimated with Maximum Likelihood estimation, with indirect effects using bootstrapped confidence intervals of 10,000 replications (95% bias corrected). The omission of these platforms from the overall model was further supported by their empirical lack of statistical significance in preliminary analyses. The model included age, gender, daily cell phone time, and social media platform use (Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube) as independent variables predicting levels of friendship closeness. The model also included the association between these variables working indirectly through the importance of technology for social connection. For example, Instagram and Snapchat offer interfaces that make use of affordances that might be particularly salient for adolescents’ sense of social connection.

Anish Shahane is a Founding Member and Business Analyst at YaraCircle, with a background in business analysis and engineering. Research shows that friendship needs perceived closeness — the feeling that you still know this person deeply, that you’re still emotionally present in each other’s lives. Distance doesn’t automatically destroy perceived closeness.
These friendships are built on pure choice and effort. They’re not sustained by convenience or proximity, but by genuine care. Not all friendships survive distance, and that’s okay. Some friendships were perfect for a particular time and place but aren’t meant to endure across distance. You can’t grab coffee to talk through a bad day or celebrate a win in person.

You can keep strong friendships without constant texting by focusing on meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and occasional check-ins rather than daily messages. Real friendships grow through trust, understanding, and genuine connection. Even in a world full of notifications, friendships can stay strong without constant messaging. Nodes represent individual participants and arrows indicate the relationship from nominator to nominatee. Ties represented by double headed arrows are reciprocal. These diagrams visually map the friendships of participants, offering descriptive insight as well as opportunities for comparison between in-person and online networks.
During adolescence there is a significant shift from the family to the peer group, with friends taking on the role of primary agents of socialization (Bukowski et al., 2011; Bagwell and what is MeetWithMature.com Schmidt, 2013). Thus, the formation and maintenance of friendships is a key developmental task in adolescence (e.g., Bagwell and Schmidt, 2013).
